Susan Bell Obituary

With a grieving heart, we announce the passing of Susan H Bell. Susie passed away on November 22nd, 2022 peacefully at the age of eighty. Susie was an integral part of the communities of Fremont County and leaves behind a legacy of robust philanthropy and local volunteer work. She was always happiest when helping others and took so much joy in seeing those around her happy. She loved being active in the community, and supported local Fourth of July fireworks shows, the Art Center, and the local Library among others during her over forty years as a resident of Canon City. She drew inspiration from the children at Starpoint, leading to her involvement and support of the local chapter, and her deep belief in the importance of access to higher education empowered her support of the Fremont campus of Pikes Peak Community College. Susie was born November 14, 1942 in Rock Springs WY to Leonard and Frae Hay. She spent her adolescent years growing up on the BarX Ranch near the Wind River mountains in Wyoming. She attended secondary school at Rowland Hall in Salt Lake City. Her post-secondary education began at Lake Erie College in Ohio, and included the University of Wyoming and the University of Denver where she received her Master's degree. Susie married Bruce Bell in 1969, and after Susie exclaimed "I want a little us," had their first of two children: Jason in 1971 and Eban in 1977. Susie is remembered most as a strong woman, with an endearing sense of humor, a joy for making others happy, and her proclivity for Manhattans. We will miss your laugh and wit, your charm and love, your introspection and uniqueness. May your standing Wednesday night reservation at the La Petit Chablis continue in your afterlife. Susie is survived by her husband, Bruce Bell, her two sons, Jason and Eban Bell, her sister, Mary Hay, and her five grandchildren, Trinity, Cadan and Kohan Bell, and Jordyn and Riley Bell. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Pueblo Community College Foundation to enhance the Susie and Bruce Bell Scholarship which supports students at the Fremont Campus of PCC. Mail donations to PCCF, 900 W Orman Ave, Pueblo, CO 81004 or to make a secure online donation go to www.puebloccfoundation.org and click on the DONATE button. A celebration of her life will be be announced at a later date.
