Alyce Quinlan Obituary

Alyce M.
Christensen Quinlan
age 87, died Sunday evening, June 14, 2015 in Williston, Fla. She had been in failing health for five years. Jay, her husband of 68 years, was by her side. Alyce was born in the family's farmhouse in Union, Nebraska on April 25, 1928, to John and Myrtle Christensen. She had two older sisters, Jane and Ellen. At age 16, Alyce graduated high school, and then took classes in Omaha to qualify her to teach at the rural schoolhouse she attended as a child. She met her future husband while studying in Omaha, and married Jay upon completion of his Navy service when she was 19 and he was 21. Alyce and Jay lived in Canton, Ohio for 28 years. During that time, she was a homemaker raising three sons, and helping Jay with his architectural illustration business, before returning to the workforce as a property manager. In 1982, they moved to Florida to continue their respective careers.
Alyce is survived by her husband, Jay, and her oldest sister, Jane Brooks of Bellevue, NE. She is also survived by three sons and their families, Jim (Debbie) of Williston, Fla., Tim (Trudy) of Winter Park, Fla., and Scott (Shari) of New Brighton, Pa. There are 10 grandchildren, two step granddaughters, and three great- grandchildren.
Following Alyce's wishes, cremation will take place without memorial services. The family will be holding private remembrance gatherings. Suggested donations in her memory - Dementia/Alzheimer's Research, American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.
