My Dad Anthony David Bolin

My Dad, Anthony David Bolin was born April 16th 1949. Most of you know him as Tony, To, Guido, Pasta, Scorpion and so many other names he relished. He was the only son, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend, and most of all a proud Vietnam Veteran. He was sometimes stubborn. He was also very humble, two very odd combinations. I am very proud of him for the fight he went through to live another day. It appeared he had 9 lives. He was on the front lines in Vietnam, fought and Beat Cancer. He is the strongest man I will ever know.
I am going to miss a lot about my Dad but surprisingly the things he did that annoyed me at the time will be the things that I miss the most. I know that some of you were lucky to be fully aware of the 5 am wakeup calls. I know he forgot of the time difference in Tennessee, so my wakeup calls were even earlier. Dad thought "If I am, everyones up". These calls were about random things, to vent about the government taxes or maybe even advice about the best appliance to buy. He loved to read consumer reports. I spoke to my Dad several times per week over the last several years. We talked shop, war stories I made him tell me, and of course Women. You probably all knew that conversation was always interesting. I know my Dad told me he was proud of his kids. It frustrated him that Me and Tony would multi-task and call him while driving to the store, or work. We told him that he taught us to be productive with our time. Guido became a little more understanding and some of his views evolved. This made me proud of him.
My Dad was pretty strict with us when we were little. We had several things that we hated at the time but now are glad he taught us. Never talk with your mouth full, keep your elbows off the table, put your napkin on your lap, and most importantly don't run with your hands in your pockets. He even said "Don't think too much it will get you killed one day".
My Dad loved his Italian heritage. He could never get enough pasta, every time I came up to see him he always asked if we were hungry because he had sauce and bread. Of course the answer was always yes. Sometimes you may even heard him act like Tony Soprano and just say "SPEAK" when he answered the phone.
I occasionally run into someone who knew my dad and they tell me story after story about him. I've heard people tell me and my brother Tony that we are a lot like our Dad. Some times probably not so positive but all of his children have his strength, sense of humor, passion and are proud to represent him. We will carry on the Bolin name.
I am sure we all have plenty of memorable stories of him and to him that made his time here even more impactful. Dad had a very full long life. We all wish it was longer but he suffered enough. I wish we had gotten a chance to take that trip to Italy we had always talked about. Now Dad I will go see it for you and drink a birra or two for you.
WE LOVE YOU DAD. We will miss you. We will all continue to make you proud.

Safely Home:I am home in Heaven dear ones, Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over. Every restless tossing passed;I am now at peace forever. Safely home in Heaven at last. Did you wonder I so calmly trod the valley of the shade? Oh, but Jesus' love illumined every dark and fearful glade. And He came Himself to meet me. In that way so hard to tread; and with Jesus' arm to lean on, Could I have one doubt or dread? Then you must not grieve so sorely, for I love you dearly still: Try to look beyond Earth's shadows, Pray to trust our Father's Will. There is work still waiting for you, so you must not idly stand; Do it now while life remaineth-you shall rest in Jesus' land. When that work is all completed, He will gently call you Home; Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come! (May this comfort you as it did me.)

There are no words that can take the pain away. Time does heal so they say, but your sorrow and loss shall be replaced by memories of the good days that gone by and to know you will one day share the joy of Heaven together.
