Blazena Purses Obituary

Blazena Marie Purses
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many, passed away on June 27, 2011, at the age of 85, after a courageous battle with cancer. Blazena was born in 1926 in Blovice, Czechoslovakia to Josephine and Jan Jirik. Her father owned the shoe store in the town square. She was baptized, attended school and married at her parish, St. Jan Evangelista Catholic Church on May 4, 1945 to James Purses, the love of her life, whom she met at the end of World War II. Blazena was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton, Ohio for the last 60 plus years. She showed us a wonderful life. She was always there to lend a hand and taught us what it meant to work hard. She kept us supplied with canned vegetables from her garden and pies from her kitchen. Everyone looked forward to her homemade pasta, pizza fritta and pizzelles. Her passing leaves a big hole in our lives, but what great memories we have stored in our hearts forever! She was preceded in death by her husband, James John Purses; son, Pam Dominic Purses; mother, Josephine (Nee: Metlickova); father, Jan; sisters, Meldka and Maria; and brother, Vaclav.
She is survived by her two sons, John (Linda) Purses of St. Charles, Mo., Anthony (Debra) Purses of Alliance Ohio; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Purses of Bay Village, Ohio; seven grandchildren and spouses, Joshua (Jennifer), Anna, Jed, Elizabeth, Sara (Jeff) Schoonover, Kimberly, and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Madeleine, Caleb and Clover; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Angie and Rose. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Sisters, nurses and staff at the House of Loreto for their excellent care, support and kindness.
Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at Christ the Servant Parish with Msgr. Lewis F. Gaetano celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to House of Loreto, 2812 Harvard Ave. N.W. or Christ the Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1001 39th St. N.W., both of Canton, OH 44709.

Words cannot express to my Purses family how much I will miss my sweet Aunt Blaza. She was a "tough cookie" and showed all of us how to live a good life filled with laughter, love and hard work. The Lord has taken her after a long battle which she did with dignity and humor.
Love you Aunt Blazena

To the Family of Blaza~~~~~~~~~~~She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, and a reassuring presence at St. Paul's after all of these years. To return, "Home," and see her at Mass, along with all of her pals who were the foundation of that wonderful parish, gave me a sense of comfort and peace.

Her lovely smile, so welcoming and warm, was accompanied by her charming accent, when she greeted friends outside the church. Our last chat was last fall after Mass. As always, she stood in beauty and style as she spoke frankly of her ill health; even with humor.

As part of the, "Old Guard," today, I am confident that she is dancing in Heaven with those who went before her, as they line up to welcome her home; her parents and siblings, her love, Jim, her beloved son, Pam, her, "Adopted Son," Danny Obrovac, (with hands outstretched, in hopes that she brought along some of her pizzelles), and all of the devoted parishioners of St. Paul's, who were her friends and who kept their faith through hard times and raised their children with a sense of belonging in their community, their church.

John and Tony, you will miss your mom so much. That is the best tribute anyone can hope to receive. One who has made such a difference in lives is one whose absence is felt so deeply. Be consoled that your mother lived a beautiful and good life and know that all who knew her will feel her absence, too.

My heartfelt condolences to all of her family and her close friends, Angie and Rose. Her friendship will never fade.

God Bless you, Blaza. Rest now, for a life well-lived. Susie Spear
