Charles Cheton Obituary
Charles W. Cheton, age 83, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday, January 7, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center after complications from an unexpected accident. Born in Canton, OH on November 23, 1924, he was the son of the late Theodora and Simeon Chetian. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. He enjoyed a large and successful furniture operation for 51 years known as Cheton's Furniture. He was an active member of St. George's Romanian Catholic Cathedral for over 60 years. He served several positions, including President, in the Church Council for over 23 years. He was the Chairman of the Building and Fund Raising Committee during the construction of the new cathedral in 1975. He considered this project one of his greatest life achievements. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Sally, Annie and Tina. Surviving family includes his loving wife of 35 years, Catherine (Katy); daughter, Michelle Cheton Fought (Tom); grandchildren, Chelsea, Skylar and Nathan; son, Charles D. Cheton (Shelley); grandchildren, Carly and Spencer; daughter, Anne Slaughter (George); grandchildren, Lt. Joe (Casey) Slaughter U.S.N. and 1st Lt. Stephen Slaughter U.S.A.F.; daughter, Barbra Robins (Gregg); grandchildren, Si and Chase, son Charles Gaston (Gail), grandchildren Jake and Katy; daughter, Debbie Gaston. Additional surviving family includes numerous nieces, nephews and godchild. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. George Romanian Catholic Cathedral with Fr. Gregory Duma and Fr. Ovie Margean officiating. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the Welch Sekeres Lewis Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the cathedral. A Saracusta service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Charles W. Cheton Charitable Trust Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 36171, Canton, OH 44735.

I will miss Chuck taking the "girls" to holiday parties in the snow and in the summer and everywhere else we have gone for so
many years. He was always so willing to drive us everywhere. That was the way he was.
