Doris Shatzer Obituary

Doris Ann Cline Shatzer

Age 95, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021. She was born in Canton, Ohio on July 28, 1925 and lived her entire life in the Canton/North Canton area. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Hilda (Welty) Cline. Doris was a creative woman who enjoyed watercolor painting, cooking, sewing, travelling and caring for others, both family members, friends and others. She was very involved at the Community Christian Church in North Canton for over 50 years, serving as Christian Education Director, Sunday school teacher to both children and adults, and the prayer ministry team. Doris worked at Diebold's as a receptionist. While at Diebold's she modeled with several of their new inventions, including a Drive-Thru Banking Window in the late 1940's-early 1950's. Doris stopped working before the birth of her first child, as was the custom in 1952. She returned to the workforce in the late 1960's as a secretary in various departments at Malone College (now University). She remained there until about 1980 when she retired. In addition, for many years Doris served as an election worker. Following her retirement, Doris and her husband, Bob, were active volunteers at various agencies, including the church, Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross. Doris and Bob traveled extensively to 48 of the 50 states and to many countries. They also travelled frequently to visit their children and grandchildren in Texas, Oregon and Pennsylvania.

Doris was predeceased by her parents; her husband who was her high-school sweetheart, Robert D. Shatzer (Bob) in 2014; her three brothers, Carl (in WWII), Rev. Dr. James Cline and Rev. Dr. Harold Cline and her son-in-law; Rev. Stephen Rosendahl in 2006. Doris is survived by her two children, David Shatzer (Judy) of Dallas, Texas and Susan Rosendahl of Erie, Pa. Also surviving are five grandsons, Kyle (Emily) Shatzer and Marc (Kailey) Shatzer of Texas, Gregory Rosendahl, Daniel Rosendahl and Jerad (Jodi) Rosendahl of Pa. 10 great-grandchildren also survive as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Doris is also survived by her church family and caregiving family at the Canton Christian Home.

No services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Doris's life will be held at Community Christian Church this summer at a date to be announced. Interment of her ashes at North Lawn Cemetery will occur at that time. Memorials in Doris' name may be given to Community Christian Church, 210 N. Main St. North Canton, OH, 44720, The Canton Christian Home, 2550 Cleveland Ave North, Canton, OH 44709 or dearjohnmichael.com. The Dear John Michael Foundation, PO Box 81062, Midland, TX 79708 raises funds for research and awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which afflicts her great-grandson, John Michael Shatzer. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Canton Christian Home for their care of Doris, especially during this past difficult year of COVID.
