Dorothy Hinton Obituary

Dorothy “Sue” Hinton
Age 96, of Canton, passed away early Wednesday morning after a brief illness. Sue was born in Canton to the late William and Sarah "Margaret" (Ake) Snyder. She was a 1936 graduate of McKinley High School and graduated from Kent State University in 1940. Sue was a member of Westbrook Park Church for 65 years and taught in the Plain Local and Canton City schools for a total of seven years. She enjoyed painting and was an accomplished artist and taught oil painting locally. Sue was also accomplished in acrylic and watercolor painting and in 2014 won first place in Northeast Ohio Leading Age Ohio State Art and Writing Show for her watercolor, “The Sugar Shack.” Following in her parents footsteps, she was the family authority on plants and gardening. Sue was a former member of Junior Sorosis, YWCA Garden Club, and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly).
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, in 1997; and her brother, William and his wife, Marjorie. She is survived by her children, Jonathan (Sharon) Hinton, Julie (Robert) Barr and David Hinton; granddaughters, Amy (Kenneth) Dimpfl and Susan (Christopher) Theobald; great-grandchildren, Felix and Greta Dimpfl and Juliette Theobald.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday (today) in the Canton Christian Home with Chaplain Ronald Iwanusa officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery. You may sign our guest book at: shriverfuneralhomes.com.
