Dottie Jacobson Obituary

Jacobson, Dottie

Born in Rochester, New York to Robert and Pearl Braiman, Dottie was recognized for her extraordinary high New York Regents scores. She was awarded a college scholarship in art. She attended Northwestern University and Kent State University. Since arriving in Canton in 1951, Dottie was never without a volunteer job in our community. She was a prescriptive teachers aid in the Canton School system, a Gray lady at Aultman Hospital, and a volunteer for the Salvation Army After-School Program. She taught the Sunday School kindergarten class at Temple-Israel full-time for 49 years and substituted in her 50th year. She taught more than a thousand children. To her students she was known as "The Lady With a Smile." She excelled in bridge playing with the Marathon group and the Canton Symphony couples and Ladies league. Dottie's home is filled with dozens of trophies she won in Tennis and running. She was Canton Senior Tennis champion and won numerous other tournaments. For almost 30 years she could be seen on the winners podium at the North Canton Y July 4th race. This July her running number was carried across the finishing line in her honor by "Y" friends. In more recent years, in addition to her teaching, she enjoyed working at the Stern & Mann Co. as their fashion event coordinator, staging style shows and educational events. We send our deepest sympathy to Dottie's entire family. Dottie was the kindergarten teacher to all our children at Temple Israel and Debbie, Lisa and Danny remember her fondly, as they do the Jacobson kids. Dottie was so accomplished but mainly we remember her many kindnesses and, of course, her wonderful warm smile. We send our warmest regards to the family.

You and your family are in our prayers. We will always remember, Dottie. She was a very special person and truly inspired our childen to believe in their faith. She taught them so much about Judaism. They still remember "braiding the challah". Their year in kindergarten remains one of the favorite times in Religious School. They always looked forward to seeing Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson at Temple.

Dear Marty, David, Debbie, Jody and Steven,
My heart is heavy but thinking of Dottie also lifts me up. Remembering our wonderful Thanksgivings together and so many other special moments over the almost 40 years our families have been connected. Peter and I will be remembering Dottie during Kaddish here in New Jersey this Friday since we cannot be with you in person. Zichrona livracha -- her memory, like her life, will be a blessing.

It is at times like this that the distance (miles) between us is the greatest. Just want you to know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Dottie will always be missed, but, the wonderful memories will always remain and be cherished.
