LUKE GRANDJEAN Obituary

Luke Grandjean

age 25, passed away on April 20, 2021 in Austin, Texas. He was born on August 23, 1995 and has brought joy to his family since that day.

He is survived by his parents Don and Carol Grandjean; his sister and brother-in-law, Alison and Ryan Mirabedini; grandmothers, Velda Grandjean and Shirley (Fred) Merchant; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Ron Grandjean and Frank DeMarco. Luke played football, basketball, and lacrosse for the Hoover Vikings. He was selected by his peers to be a captain for his football and lacrosse teams. In football he was all-state as a defensive back his junior year, all-state as a quarterback his senior year, and went on to play wide-receiver at Kent State on a full scholarship; few players have accomplished this level of success at three different positions. This may be why he was chosen to be part of the Canton Repository "All-Decade" team as an 'athlete', for which he was beyond proud. While at Kent State he was a letterman and Academic All-American. He opted out of a fifth red-shirt year of football to become an intern at WHBC radio on the "Kenny and JT show", during which time he covered high school football on social media, which he loved. This internship finalized his Bachelor's degree in Sports Administration with a Business minor.

For those who had not had recent contact with Luke, or did not know him at all, here is a snapshot of how his current life was going. Following his graduation from Kent State, he got a job working for Barton and Associates in Austin, Texas. After a year there he landed his dream job working for the Net Suites division of Oracle. He absolutely loved both his job and his boss and co-workers, who quickly became great friends. He was working very hard and had reached the pinnacle in sales, achieving #1 status of his entire division. He was preparing for an upcoming promotion, about which he was very excited. He had a beautiful apartment overlooking downtown Austin; he loved the city life. He loved his Boston Terrier puppy Franklin; riding through Austin on his new electric bike; hanging out with his sister Ali, brother-in-law Ryan, and fur-niece Tala (who lived just up the road in Texas); and spending time with a multitude of friends. His family was blessed that he was home with them recently due to being able to work from home. He was incredibly excited for what the future held and talked daily of all his hopes and dreams, which he was just beginning to make a reality. We can't imagine the future without him in it.

A private funeral service and interment were held in Texas. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 15th., from 2 to 6 pm at the Sable Creek Golf Course in Hartville, Ohio. Anyone who would like to raise a toast and share fond memories of Luke's life is welcome to attend. Luke was an amazing son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, teammate, co-worker, and friend. He will be missed forever.

Dear Carol and Don, so sorry to hear of your loss. I know it has been a few years since we crossed paths, but Matt and I enjoyed our swim trips and meets with you and Luke when he swam at the NC Ymca. Great all-around athlete and I know he and Matt enjoyed their time together at the swim meets. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Sandy (Goodin) Pech and Matt Pech

I will never forget Luke and the love he had for not only me and any of this other friends, but every stranger he every came into contact with. He lit up every room with his goofy giggle and smile and it was sure to stop just about anyone in their tracks, a true force. I was devastated to learn of the passing of a friend I, too often, went without seeing for far too long in-between but he always made sure to make every passing and catch-up feel like no time had ever passed at all. My heart breaks a little more each time I remember I won’t be able to see him at happy hour, at zilker, or any other event again, but I know he’s looking down on all of us hoping we enjoy every second of the rest of our time here on this earth. I’m thankful for the last two years I was able to spend with him as his friend and co-worker. I wish the best to his family during this time. He will be deeply missed.

I mostly knew Luke from Social Media. I was crushed to hear about the loss of such a beautiful soul. A couple years ago, I met Luke. I was out with my cousin who had grown up with Luke. Luke was genuinely friendly and charming. I can see why he was loved by many. He had this “magic” effect that made you instantly like him. After that night, I never saw or spoke to Luke again.. but I never forgot how Luke’s big heart, smile and personality were so contagious. My heart breaks for his family and friends during this time. May Memories of Luke and the love of family and friends surround you and give you strength in the days ahead. Also, may you find comfort in the thought that you look at the same moon as Luke every night. He will be forever remembered.

My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy go out to the entire Grandjean family during this time of sorrow. I pray that God will shower your family with his blessings and his love, and give you all strength, courage, and peace in your time of need. I believe we all have a purpose in life to fulfill, and when we have done so, God brings us home to be with him. Luke must have fulfilled his faster than anyone could have wanted or imagined, but he now sits at the right hand of God. May he rest in peace eternally.

To the Grandjean family,

I had the absolute pleasure of starting my career with Luke, and he instantly became a friend to me and of all his other coworkers. Luke was extremely nice, driven, respectful to all, and had a great amount of love to share to those around him. It was easy to tell that Luke had an amazing family as he spoke so highly of those close to him. We will miss his positivity, goofy sense of humor, smile and comradely in the workplace dearly. With Sympathy,

Luke made an immediate impact on “The Kenny & JT Show.” Fitting in like he’d been working with us for years. Words cannot express the sorry we feel for your loss. On a personal note, we have a saying in the orthodox religion. “Memory Eternal!” Sincerely, Jeff Turk “JT”

A great football player, and amazing lacrosse player, and an incredible friend. Athletes share an unbreakable bond that can only be understood by those who fought alongside their brothers; a bond only team mates can understand. The Hoover alumni are heartbroken over this. We all stand alongside the Grandjean family and my condolences go out to you. You will always be in our hearts, Luke. Go Vikes.
