Martin was my next door friend.
Always willing to help me with anything.
He was from a generation that knew what an American meant.
I loved him.

We do not get the local papers and just found out Martin passed. Martin was such a great neaubor. We would visit each other and I would crack him up with jokes. I loved when Martin would laugh. ALWAYS, always helped me with tools and showing me how to do things. He would be out in the cold/ snow plowing our driveway at 5 am! amazing man! GAve my great niece a dollhouse for Christmas a few years ago! We cherished that gift! Martin, yiu will be missed by me. I love you. TOM Simakis and family

I have so very many wonderful memories of Uncle Marty. He had the greatest smile! When I was young, he and I had a contest to see who could find the largest greeting card (always silly) to send the other. What I remember most was that he treated me with such kindness and I looked forward to his visits to the farm. He always made time to play with all the kids and was always joking and kidding. I have clear memories when he was shipped off to Korea and how anxious his family (particularly his mother) was him to see him go. When he returned he gave me his white Navy hat - a treasure that I still have. I corresponded with him the last few years and I could tell he had been true to himself all this time. He talked with love and pride about Lisa and Marty. Although I hadn't seen him for a long time I am saddened at his passing and will miss hearing from him and knowing he is out there doing good. My thoughts are with all his family.

"Marty" Pertican was a great neighbor and friend to me. He will be very missed in our Lake Cable neighborhood. He was the rare type of neighbor that "got involved" helping in any way he could. He helped me split and stack firewood. He helped me rack leaves in the fall and spread mulch in the spring. If you needed a hand, Marty was there to volunteer. Physically, Marty kept himself in great shape by taking his early-morning "3-mile trek" around Lake Cable. Rain or shine, summer or winter, Marty walked on. He inspired me to do the same as I now follow in his footsteps. He was skilled with many tools and had superior wood and metal working abilities. The miniature "dollhouses" he built were elaborate and detailed works of art. I remember one dollhouse in particular that he donated to The Heritage Christian School Auction that went for a bid of over $900! The crowd cheered and gave him a standing ovation for his amazing craftmanship! I have been blessed to have Marty as my neighbor. I will miss his smile, the twinkle of his eyes and his quiet but impactful ways. Many blessings to his loving daughter and son and to his many grandchildren.
