Nellie C. Mason
Age 97, of Canton, formerly of Youngstown, passed away in Aultman Hospital on Monday, July 20, 2009. She was born on March 9, 1912, in Youngstown, to the late William and Margaret Flynn. Nellie was a 1930 graduate of South High School. She was a retired employee of Singer Sewing Machine Company, where she worked for many years. Nellie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Canton and St. Christine Catholic Church in Youngstown. She was a member of the Card Club at London Square, past president of the Women's Federation, Uptown Kiwaniqueen's and Sigma Phi Epsilon Mothers Club. Nellie was also a member of the Literary Club of Youngstown, the Sewing Club, Red Hat Ladies Society, the Atheniam Club and served as chairwoman of the Mahoning County Community Chest.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Mason in 1970; brother, William E. Flynn; three sisters, Rita Flynn who went to be with the Lord as an infant, Sarah B. Mason and Betty Molin. Nellie is survived by her son, Howard A. (Carol) Mason of Illinois; daughter, Patricia A. (Thomas) Lundquist of Canton; nine grandchildren, Howard (Rachelle), Doug (Heather), Kimberly (Greg), Richard (Sharon), Thomas (Wendi), Matthew (Tabitha), Trisha (Brian), Christopher, Eric (Happy); 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Audrey Rouser of Florida and Bertha Hallis of Louisville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 10 a.m. in St. Christine Catholic Church (3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44511) with Rev. Msgr. David W. Rhodes as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
