Sowards, Paul J.
76, of Massillon
passed away Thursday April 23, 2009 at Affinity Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 2, 1932 in Lawrence County, OH the son of the late Augustus "Gus" and Martha (Nelson) Sowards. Paul worked in the machine shop at Republic Steel retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Army-Navy Garrison #207, Massillon AmVets Post #6, Massillon Moose Lodge # 481, and the First Baptist Church of Massillon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and driving his 1931 Model A. On February 22, 1957 he married Alice (Stewart) and she survives along with children Michael P. Sowards of Massillon, Karen L. (Ross) Hoopes of Rochester, MN, Carolyn D. (Alan) Haley of Navarre, Eddie R. (Erin) Sowards of New Philadelphia, and Amy R. (Leroy) Kuhns of Dalton; brother Augustus Gene Sowards of Charleston, WV; step-brothers Butch Sowards of Orrville, and Roger (Donna) Sowards of Branchland, WV; sister Anna Lee Barrett of Batesburgh, SC; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Sowards, and sister Ellen Adkins- Goody. Calling hours will be Friday from 6-9 P.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd. NE.
