Richard O. Swager
Richard "Dick" O. Swager, age 89, of North Canton, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services of Belden Village following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 17, 1918 in Wellsville, OH, a son of the late Roscoe and Mabel Hilliard Swager. He attended McKinley High School and was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 127th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Division, participating in the Battle of Luzon in the Philipines. On Feb. 4, 1939, he married Dorothea "Thea" M. Migliozzi (Miller), and from this union, three loving children were born. He was a member of the Fairmount Park United Presbyterian Church in Canton where he served as a Deacon and Elder, and most recently, the Northminster Presbyterian Church in North Canton where he also served as an Elder. He was a member of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local Union #6 and was recognized in 2006 for 50 years of union membership. In addition, he was a member of American Legion Post #44, and retired from Republic Steel (LTV) in 1980. After retirement, he and Dorothea spent many wonderful winters in Sebastian, FL. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in- law, Richard E. and Diane E. Swager, of North Canton, and Timothy V. Swager, of Canton; his daughter, Cathy L. Swager, of Clear Lake, IA; four grandchildren, Robin, Timothy II, Jeannine, and Richelle; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita McCullough, of Massillon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothea, on Oct. 13, 2002, his parents, brother Ross Jr., sister, Myra Mason, and daughter-in- law, Susan. At his request, cremation has taken place. There are no calling hours. A private family memorial service will be held when Dick and Thea's cremains are united. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either HCR/ManorCare, 5005 Higbee Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44718, or to Heartland Hospice Services, Inc. 2800 South Arlington Road, Akron, OH 44312. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness." – 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

Swager Family;
My prayers are with you at this time. Our Lord is gracious and loving and will guide you and protect you. Isaiah 41:10 says; So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

My condolences to Rick Swager and his brother. The parents were so good to us when we played in the backyard in grammar school. I'm so happy you were able to keep your parents for such a long time. Many of my fond memories to this day was building a tree house in the back yard with the help of Rick's father.
