Scott Glidden Obituary

Reverend Scott
Howard Glidden
The Reverend Scott Howard Glidden died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, August 19, 2007. Scott was born on May 29, 1950 in Hancock, Michigan and grew up in North Canton, OH. Scott earned a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from The College of Wooster, OH in 1972 and a Master of Divinity from Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA in 1980. His career encompassed public school and college teaching and ministry, but truly brought these two threads to every post he ever held. His most recent position was as Vicar of Grace Episcopal Church, East Concord, NH. Scott loved baking, cycling and the outdoors, having earned Eagle Scout as a young man and will be remembered for his life long passion for spiritual and intellectual well-being. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Liechty Glidden, M.D. of Nashua, NH; his parents, Robert and Gayle Flickinger of Black Mountain, North Carolina; his birth father, William H. Glidden of Traverse City, Michigan; his brothers, Biff of Burke, VA and Peter of West Chester, PA. He will also be remembered by the many beloved children from all over the world that he and Jane welcomed into their lives, his extended family and friends at Daniel Webster College and the community of the Episcopal Church. Services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Church of the Good Shepherd, 214 Main Street, Nashua, with a reception to follow. Burial will be private. Parking is available at the public garage on Elm Street. The family requests that in lieu of flowers you consider a gift in Scott's name to Episcopal Relief and Development, P.O. Box 7058, Merrifield, VA 22116, (www.er-d.org). Arrangements are in the care of Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua.

I was stunned to learn about Scott's death this morning from Neff Powell - his positive energy, devotion to the truth and compassionate heart were so helpful to me back in the early 90s in Manchester. And Jane - your friendship, too was a huge support. I will be there Saturday morning, and am holding you in my heart in prayer.

Bob, Gayle, Biff, Peter & Jane--
I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss - it was a great shock to me. Scott, along with Paul & Jim & I had many hours of play together as very young children and I have carried these memories with me fondly throughout the years. It is sad to reconnect this way.
I see that in his adult life he served others and was very much loved and admired (certainly no surprise).
May his memory be eternal!!
