Shawn R. Peterson

48, of Anchorage, Alaska passed away on Thursday June 3, 2021 due to complications of on-going medical conditions. Shawn was born on January 22, 1973 in Canton, Ohio to Robert and Helen Peterson. Shawn moved to Alaska in 2009 and began working for Smith Cable Systems in Anchorage where he worked his way up to becoming Vice President of Operations in 2021. Shawn fell in love with Alaska and lived a wonderful life where he enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, and being a lover of animals, especially his dog Kayla.

He left behind many friends and workmates whom Shawn made a wonderful impact on, particularly Jean Moran, who held a special place in his life. All who were lucky enough to have known Shawn will remember him by his contagious laugh and big smile. Shawn will be eternally missed by his two daughters, Maghara and Malaika Peterson; parents, Robert and Helen Peterson; sisters, Lynette (John) Buccasso and Sandi LaHaye; brother, Robert (Louana) Peterson; many nieces and nephews, Rocco Buccasso, Marco (Mackenzie) Buccasso, Illiana Buccasso, Kellie Zabivinik, Shelbie Billman, Greyson Peterson, and Brinley Peterson; great niece and nephew, Zoe and Jaxon; and mother of his children, Brandi Peterson. Shawn's family and friends are exceptionally grateful for the compassionate care provided by the physicians, nurses, and all staff of Alaska Regional Hospital, especially the ICU nurses, who went above and beyond during his final days. In the midst of a tragedy, Shawn left behind a beautiful light by donating his organs to those in need. Shawn will be remembered for not only the life he lived, but also the many lives he saved.

There will be no formal services, as Shawn's ashes will be spread at one of his favorite places where he will live on eternally in his true home of Alaska.

Shawn was a person with a big heart. I known him since he started working as a contractor for GCI. He was very professional. I chatted with him outside of work and he assisted me with many things. I am very grateful. i kept in contact with him when i left GCI. He will be dearly missed and many people memories.

Shawn was an amazing person, and
good friend. He was very kind, He was the kind of guy that would go out of his way for someone. He loved to find treasure in storage lockers. It was always so much fun to see what surprises awaited him. Thank you for simply Sara. When we meet again,
I owe you bologna salad. You will be missed my fellow Goonie. The world is an uglier place without you. God bless your family...

My heart goes out to you, Bob and Helen, and your family. My prayers are with all of you during this difficult time and in the days/years to come. I'm glad I have the memory of Shawn spending the night with our family when he was a little boy. I care deeply for the hurt you are all going through.
