Thelma Jeannette “Jan” Stark
1930 - 2016
86, of Navarre, entered into the presence of her Savior on Friday afternoon, July 1, 2016. Born in Detroit, Mich., May 17, 1930, a daughter to the late Henry and Rowena (Hopper) Jackson, Jan spent all of her adulthood as an area resident, most recently in Navarre.
Starting as a waitress, she became assistant manager of the former Town & Country Buffet Restaurant in Perry Twp. and later worked as part of the dietary staff at Canton Regency. A devoted mom, grandma, and great-grandma, she loved her family dearly and always enjoyed the time they spent together. Jan was a wonderful cook and baker – especially when it came to pie baking. Her culinary skills and extra touches made simple things extra special. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening and collecting recipes.
Preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Clifford E. Stark and a dear daughter-in-law, Joan DeGordon Stark; Jan is survived by her sons, Lester D. “David” (Nancy) Stark, of Perry Twp. and Ted E. Stark, of Venice, Fla; her grandchildren, Sam (Kim) Stark, Gregg (Adrienne) Stark, Michael (Elizabeth “Libby”) Stark and Megan (Adam) Kaufman; eight great-grandchildren and her sister, Donna (Alan) Moser, of Minerva.
A Celebration of her life will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2016, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 7344 Ridge Ave., SE, East Sparta, OH 44626. Pastor Michael Bradford will officiate and burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery, Canton. The family will receive guests one hour prior to services Monday morning from 10-11:00, in the church. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of Altercare of Navarre for the care and kindness shown to Jan. They have further suggested memorial contributions made in her name to Asbury UMC.
