Martha Mims Maynard Johnson died on January 21, 2015 at her home in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Born February 12, 1933 in Clarksdale, Martha Mims was the daughter of Elizabeth Whittington Maynard and William Henry Maynard. She attended Clarksdale Public Schools and graduated from Clarksdale High School. After a year at Hollins College in Virginia, she continued her education at the University of Mississippi. She was a Chi Omega. Martha Mims was the descendant of early nineteenth century settlers in Friars Point, Coahoma County. She was a lifelong, devoted member of First United Methodist Church, Clarksdale. She was predeceased by her parents and by her brother, William Henry Maynard, Jr. Martha Mims is survived by her husband O. Shaw Johnson, Jr. They were married in June, 1954. She is also survived by her children, Betsy Johnson Corso (Al); Dugger Johnson Green; Mims Johnson Rodgers (Rodge) and O. Shaw Johnson III (Beth). She also leaves her ten grandchildren, Gerald Alexander Gafford III (Jessica), Julia Elizabeth Corso, Albert Cruse Corso, Daniel O. Green, Jr, William Shaw Green, Edward Andrew Rodgers, Martha Mims Rodgers, Katherine Elizabeth Rodgers, O. Shaw Johnson IV and Elizabeth Shelton Johnson.

A celebration of Martha Mims' life will be held on Friday, January 23 at First United Methodist Church at 11 am. Visitation at the church will be from 10 - 11 am. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is in charge of arrangements.
