Grady Alderman, 79, of Evergreen, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Life Care Center of Evergreen.
Grady, the son of Cecil and Grace Alderman, was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Detroit, Mich. He received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University
of Detroit.
He served in the U.S. Army in 1962, and after an honorable discharge, he served in the Army Reserves.
He married Nancy Sharp on Oct. 23, 1961, in Overland Park, Kan.
Grady's interests in life were professional football as a player and in management, a certified public accountant, his family and his faith.
Grady played college football for the University of Detroit, was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1960 and was then picked in the expansion draft for the Minnesota Vikings in 1961. Grady played for the Vikings for 14 years, was the last of the original Vikings to play for the team and was recognized as one of the "50 Greatest Vikings."
During his years playing for the Vikings, he played in six Pro Bowls and three Super Bowls, and was the offensive team captain for eight years. During off-seasons, Grady worked as a CPA for Deloitte, Haskins & Sells.
Grady followed his career on the field as the director of planning and development for the Vikings. He was also a broadcaster doing the color commentary for radio station WCCO in Minneapolis.
Grady took the general manager position for the Denver Broncos, and the family moved to Evergreen.
Living in Evergreen, Grady built his business as a CPA, worked in banking as an asset-based lender and worked as a contractor. Grady was a member of and served on the foundation board for Rockland Community Church. He was also on the architectural board for the Saddleback HOA.
Grady loved his family and enjoyed being involved in all aspects of the family's endeavors.
Surviving Grady are his wife Nancy of Evergreen; two children, Rob Alderman (Kerri) of Alpharetta, Ga., and Christy Cannell (Chad) of Colorado Springs; six grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.
Preceding Grady in death were his parents and his brother Eugene.
Grady is remembered in all our hearts as a kind and generous man who loved his family, friends and his God.
