Barbara L. Scott

1939 - 2021

On January 10, 2021, Barbara L. Scott, 81, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was the devoted mother of Kirsten Montenari and Karen Pouliot and husband Roy; grandmother of Ryan and Kayleigh Aubin, Mikayla Montenari, Savannah Butka and Christina Gardner, great-grandmother of Jeremy and AJ Gardner. She was born on August 4, 1939 in Tacoma, Washington to the late Laurence and Ruby Olson. Barbara graduated in 1957 from Stadium High School in Tacoma. She was employed by Boeing for six years before moving to Hawaii. Barbara lived in Hawaii for only four years but she made many lifelong friends. She learned to play the ukulele, make shoyu chicken, fried wontons and motel malasadas. Barbara enjoyed going to the beach, traveling to other islands and entertaining family. Barbara moved to Severn, MD and retired from the Defense Intelligence Agency after 20 years of service, where she received several awards including The Defense Intelligence Director's Award. She was a dedicated worker, avid Baltimore Ravens fan, Red Hat Society member, and enjoyed bowling, reading, gardening, bird & bunny watching, feeding ducks and going on outings to the Dutch Country Farmers Market. She especially loved going for drives with her husband of 22 years and eating crabs they caught at the shore. She was a devoted mother, nana, aunt, great-grandmother and friend. She treasured spending time with her loved ones most of all. She had a great sense of humor and as she said you can always tell a Swede but you can't tell them much. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Ernest F. Butka, sister Patricia Ward, and brothers Laurence M. Olson and Ronald Olson. She is survived by several beloved nieces and nephews. Barbara will be buried with her husband at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville. Services will be private. Arrangements by Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or American Heart Association.
