Bernard Lobe Obituary

LOBE, BERNARD, 87, ofAnnapolis, died of cancer July 29, 2010 at home surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Natalie. Bernie also leaves his children Annabel and Hank of Annapolis and Josh of Burlington, Vermont along with grand children Nathan and Jonas. Bernard was a caring father, devoted husband and great Pop-Pop. He was a Certified Public Accountant in private practice in Baltimore for many years. He was dedicated to, and greatly respected by, his many long term clients. After retirement, Bernie was an active volunteer with Kol Shalom Synagogue, serving as a board member and treasurer for many years. His other volunteer work, in Columbia, included Meals on Wheels and financial advisory positions. An avid tennis player, he often teamed up with Natalie. He was also an active outdoorsman who loved fishing, skiing and hiking, particularly with his family. Bernard greatly enjoyed a monthly poker game with his close friends from the greater Baltimore area. The game ran for more than 55 years with Bernie the longest surviving member. He never won showdown. Bernard was quietly intellectual throughout his long life. He was active in two book groups up until the time of his death. He completed difficult crossword puzzles nearly every day. He was especially loved for his sharp dry humor. Services will be held at Kol Shalom Synagogue at 11:00 A.M. August 1, 2010. All family and friends are invited to the residence for the Shiva gatherings Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Kol Shalom Synagogue 1909 Hidden Meadow Lane, Annapolis, MD 21401, the National Jewish Fund or the charity of one's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.hardestyfuneralhome.com.
