Chad Atchison Obituary

Chad Michael Atchison, 27, of Danville, VA, died on June 9th as a result of a tragic auto-related accident.  Chad was an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in Pittsylvania County.  He was a leader who stayed active in his community and profession.  He was the current president of the Pittsylvania County Bar Association, on the board of the Danville Historical Society, and helped as an advisor with the mock trial project that is part of the Chatham High School AP senior government class. He graduated from Liberty University in 2013 where he was president of the student body and an honors graduate.  He stayed at Liberty to attend law school, where he was an integral part of the Trial Team.  Graduating in 2016, he joined the Commonwealth Attorney's office upon passing the bar exam. Chad was an outgoing, gregarious individual who loved the Lord, loved his family, loved his work, and loved life.  He had a passion for reading and was very proud of his large personal library.  He was blessed with an exceptional memory.  His family and friends relied on him to remember facts, dates, and historical events, which he could usually expound upon effortlessly and in great detail.  This served him well in his position as a prosecutor. Chad was well liked by everyone that he came in contact with.  He enjoyed meeting and being around people with the aim of getting everyone involved in a conversation or project.  Conversation and activity were never lacking when he was around.  He took great pleasure in all physical activities like hiking, camping, riding his long board, soccer, and staying in shape.  He also delighted in doing ride-alongs with his beloved buddies in the Pittsylvania County Sheriff Department. This vibrant young man with great future potential will be missed considerably by his family, friends, and co-workers.  Because of his strong faith and trust in the Lord, he has traded this earthly home for one with his Savior, but his loved ones will be immeasurably wrapped up in his memory always. Chad is survived by his parents, Carla and Don Atchison; brothers Brett, Grant, and Cole; sister Meagan and brother-in-law Joe Dupras; grandfather David Broyles, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith; grandmother Betty Broyles; and grandfather Donald Atchison. A memorial gathering will be held at Norris Funeral Services - Mount Hermon Chapel 3995 Franklin Turnpike Danville, VA on Wednesday, June 13th from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church 710 Ridgely Ave. Annapolis, MD on Saturday, June 16th at 11am, with family receiving guests 1 hour prior. Burial to follow at 1pm at Lakemont Memorial Park, Davidsonville, MD.

I want to extend my sincere condolences to the Atchison family on the devastating loss of Chad. Besides the many beautiful memories you have of him to cherish. May you cherish the hope god gives us in Hosea 13:14. May it bring you peace and comfort.

Words cannot express the sorrow felt in the Danville - Pittsylvania County at the loss of this amazing young man. Chad was a talented attorney with a bright future in front of him. He was a compassionate friend in times of need. More importantly, Chad was a man of God. You could see that light shine through him. I am comforted by the notion that Chad has joined Keith with our Heavenly Father and the two are spreading the fun up in heaven.

I did not know you personally, however; you were a close friend and colleague of my daughter, Madison Whitehead and she always spoke so highly of you. Your wit, your laughter and your intelligence. you will be missed greatly. No one should leave this earth at this young age....
Our thoughts and prayers go to your family in this time of sorrow and unhappiness. May they be given the strength in knowing you are at the right hand of God and his angel. R.I.P.
