Charles Crandell Obituary

CRANDELL, CHARLES ALBERT "CHARLIE" passed away Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD at age 66. Born March 8, 1947 in Annapolis, MD, Charlie graduated from Southern High School in 1965. He received a B.S. In Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland in January 1970. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents John O. Crandell Sr. and Jewel Bladen Crandell, and his niece Diana O'Day and nephew Wayne Crandell. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 42 years Karen Newkirk Crandell; daughter Bridget Crandell Jessen, son-in-law Eric Jessen, and grandchildren Zoe, Max, Jake, Zeke, and Ziva Jessen of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Robin Crandell Harris, son-in-law David Harris II, and grandchildren David III, Emma, Sam, and Eli Harris of Chesapeake Beach, MD; son Chas Crandell, daughter-in-law Karen Garalde Crandell, and newborn grandson Augie Crandell of West River, MD; and son Lee Crandell and partner David Spielfogel of Chicago, IL; sister Phyllis Crandell Taylor and brother-in-law Jack Taylor of Friendship, MD; brother John Crandell Jr. and sister-in-law Linda Crandell of West River, MD; brother Wayne Crandell and sister-in-law Linda Crandell of Lothian, MD; mother-in-law Mae Newkirk of Silver Spring, MD; sister-in-law Bonnie O'Day of Scottsdale, AZ; and sister-in-law Nancy Saenz and brother-in-law Pete Saenz of Aurora, CO. Charlie also had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved. He resided in West River, MD for 28 years in an earth-bermed home that he built for his family. He worked with his father, brothers, sister and son-in-law David Harris II at E.A. & J.O. Crandell Inc. Charlie loved spending time with family, friends and the wonderful, supportive people of Riverdale Baptist Church. He was a kind, patient, humble, and loving man respected and loved by many. He was a precious gift to his family and a wonderful testimony. Diagnosed with primary amyloidosis in 2005, he fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). He left this world on Monday, June 10, 2013 into his heavenly Father's arms. He waited on the Lord to renew his strength. We rejoice in knowing that he can now run and not be weary and walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31). "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (Revelation 21:4). Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hardesty Funeral Home in Galesville, MD. The viewing will be held at Riverdale Baptist Church, 1177 Largo Rd, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 at 10:00 AM on Friday June 14, 2013. Funeral services will follow at the same location at 11:00 AM. Charlie was good friend for many years from Elementary School, High School and College. I was fortunate to see him at his home and later at the shop. Truly a kind and gentle man and a great friend.
