Col. RET Obituary

Col. George William Ryan, Jr., USAF RET, 65, of Arnold, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 12, 2024. He was born on September 28, 1958 in Medford, MA. George grew up living in Burlington, MA and would later live in Colorado, Montana, Washington DC, Greece, Texas, Ohio, and Indiana. George graduated from the Unites States Air Force Academy, the University of Southern California, and George Washington University ultimately earning two Masters Degrees. He would go on to serve in the US Air Force, the US Secret Service, and later became a Commander in the Air Force JROTC. George was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company, the American Legion, Association of Air Force Missileers, the US Air Force Academy Association of Graduates, and the US Secret Service Association. In George's spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family, flying, fitness (especially bicycling), and riding his motorcycle. George is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Rox Ann Thompson, of Arnold, MD; his three children, Kevin Ryan of Brookings, SD, Colleen Ryan (Maurice Huggins) of Chester, MD, and Patrick Ryan (Katy Butts-Ryan) of Hampton, VA; four grandsons, Archer and Finnigan Ryan, and Emmett and Brady Huggins. His sister, Valerie Anne Gass (Dan) and his brother, Sean Ryan. George is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 2 - 4pm and 6 - 8pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home and Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 11:30am in St. John the Evangelist Parish Activities Center, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment in the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, www.WoundedWarriorProject.org/ Online condolences may be made at www.BarrancoFuneralHome.com
