Daniel Leo Hysan Sr.

1934 - 2019

Daniel Leo Hysan, Sr., 84, of Tracys Landing, Maryland passed away on January 29, 2019 at home surrounded by his loved ones.Born May 30, 1934 in Mt. Rainier, Maryland, Dan was the son of Paul Hysan Sr. and Sadie Flynn Hysan. Dan graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1952 and married the love of his life, Doris Griggs Hysan, November 29, 1952 (he was 18 years old and Doris was 17). They moved to Lanham, Maryland in 1959 before settling in Tracys Landing in 1978 in a house he built with the help of his children.Dan followed in his father's footsteps and went to work at The Washington Post and retired as a lino-type machinist and then had a business with his friend Bill Gorman called Go-Dan Construction.Dan was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in West River, Maryland. He also served as the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.Dan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Griggs Hysan and brother, Donald Anthony Peppi (Pam). His children will cherish his memory: Daniel L. Hysan, Jr. (Joyce); Donald A. Hysan (Kathy); Doreen M. Green (Mike); Deborah A. Howes (Chris) and David C. Hysan (Angela); grandchildren: Brian Kersey – Dan Jr.'s stepson (Tammy); Sheri Hysan Carson (Ryan), Kristi Hysan Wilmot (John), Brandi Green Kowal (Paul); Michael Green Jr. (Jess), Cody Howes and Garrett Hysan and great grandchildren: Ocean and Macie Kersey, Emerson and Ellery Carson; Miles and Calvin Kowal; James, Grace and Gwyneth Wilmot and Charlotte Green.Dan was preceded in death by step-mother, Catherine Casey Hysan and brother, Paul Hysan, Jr. and sister-in-law Rita.A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in West River, Maryland. Family and friends will gather in the church hall following the mass.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dan's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
