Don Allen Obituary

Don and Nancy Allen of Annapolis, MD, passed away together on October 19th, 2025, after 68 loving years of marriage. Their love story – rooted in faith, laughter, and devotion to one another – remained unbroken to the very end. Donald Beston Allen was born on February 13, 1935, in Teaneck, New Jersey. Anne "Nancy" Baldwin Allen was born on November 13, 1934, in Jersey City, New Jersey. They met in Avon on the Jersey Shore in 1955, and from that day on, they were inseparable. They married in 1958 and started their family in Madison, NJ and later resided for 23 years in Elm Grove, WI. Don, a graduate of The University of Virginia, worked for The Heil Co., starting as a salesman and progressing through the ranks to become President before his retirement in 1985. Nancy, a graduate of Jersey City State Teachers College, taught elementary school before devoting her time raising their three children and volunteering. Upon his retirement, Don and Nancy relocated to Annapolis, MD and spent the second half of their lives sailing the Chesapeake, sponsoring midshipmen, continuing their volunteer work with: PEO, Maryland Federation of Art, Severn School and docents for Historic Annapolis. They were active parishioners of St. Mary's Church. Don and Nancy created a home that overflowed with love, laughter and the scent of Sunday suppers. They maintained a second home in Belgrade Lakes, ME since their marriage, where their children, grandchildren and friends would gather each summer for sunset cocktails on the lake and lobster dinners. Their marriage was marked by humor, loyalty and a shared ability to welcome others into their home that comes only from decades spent side by side through all chapters of life. They are survived by their children – Sharon (Jay) Mohr of Scituate, MA, Kathleen (David) McCoun of Arnold, MD and Don (Ellen) Allen of Millersville, MD – along with seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and countless friends who cherished their kindness and support. Don and Nancy will be remembered for the way they looked at each other, always with affection, and for the beautiful example they set of lasting love. A joint mass will be held on Friday November 7th, at 11:00 am at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church in Annapolis, MD. There will be a reception immediately following in the Church hall. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in their names to the Ginger Cove Foundation – 4000 River Crescent Dr., Annapolis, MD 21401.

Mr. Don and Mrs. Nancy were two of the nicest people I have ever met. Whenever I would see them they would greet me with smiles and hugs. My heart was broken this week when I heard of their passing. They will be missed by so many that loved them. To their family my thoughts and prayers are with you.
