Doreen Hill

HILL, M.S., PHD, DOREEN G., 60, resident of Upper Marlboro, Maryland passed away on June 12, 2012. Born 10/31/51 in Corry, PA. She is survived by her parents, Dr. Jack and Margaret Hill, her sister Lisa A. Hill and niece Sarah Whitney Morrish. Doreen was a local breeder of Quarter Horses and enjoyed keeping them at her home. She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Potomac Valley Dressage Association. She spent many years actively involved and advocating for the Maryland horse community. Doreen was a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School, Rockville MD graduating with honors. She obtained a B.S undergraduate degree from Indiana University, a Master's Degree in Biology at Georgetown University and a PhD in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University. Her expertise in epidemiology brought her to serve on the Maryland Horse Industry Board's Health Advisory Committee during the Equine Herpes Virus outbreak of 2006. She volunteered regularly at the Marlborough Horse Trials at Rosaryville State Park.

She was also a local activist, participating in successful efforts to preserve open space for horse trails and recreation in the Rural Tier of Prince Georges County. She was an internationally recognized expert on the biological effects of radiofrequency radiation. She was also recognized for her knowledge of the biological effects of other forms of radiation. Doreen had a federal career at EPA and DOL-OSHA as well as time working as a consultant to private industry. It was Doreen's wish that the ongoing care of and ownership of her two beloved horses, "Chester" and "Chelsea" be conducted by her dear friend, Cathy.
