Doris Dresser Obituary

DRESSER, DORIS ELAINE CHARLET, joined our Lord when she passed away at home on 29 March 2012. She was born in La Grange, Illinois 27 April 1925 and spent most of her youth in Kewanee, Illinois. After graduating from Kewanee High School, she attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, where she met her beloved husband, Don.

Doris graduated with honors and was asked to join the faculty as a physical education instructor, teaching the female students in swimming classes, synchronized swimming, life guarding and square dancing classes. After her marriage 28 June 1952 to Don, who also graduated from Augustana and became a federal employee, they relocated to Moline, Illinois. They also lived in Colorado Springs and returned to Rock Island in 1955 when she served as a member of the Augustana Alumni Association through 1965. The family relocated to Arnold MD. in 1967 when she became very involved in their church, such as, singing in the choir, helping in the garage sales, serving at one time, as chairperson of the Arts and Crafts Women's Circle and also serving as coordinator for Volunteer Meals on Wheels over 30 years. In addition, she was physically active enjoying aerobics, polka, ballroom and square dancing and water aerobics until she was unable to continue. As a youth and through college, sharing her musical interests, she was an accomplished marimba performer in various venues.

Doris will be remembered for her exemplary devotion, unselfish love and faith who devoted herself to her husband of almost 60 years and their four children: Cliff, Cathy Wolfrum (Garry) Judi and Jeff, including six grandchildren and six great grand children. Adored by Church family and extended family and friends they will also remember her as a loyal and remarkable woman.

As a last offering, reflecting her giving character, she requested to have her body made available for medical education and research to benefit others and future generations.

A celebration of life service will be held 14 April 2012, 11:00 AM at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park. MD.21146. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that if desired, memorial contributions in honor of Doris, be submitted to their church and the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD. 21401
