Elizabeth Catterton Obituary

Elizabeth Nutwell Catterton, 99, Tracy's Landing, died of natural causes March 28 at her residence.
She was born Jan. 2, 1910, in Nutwell, now part of Deale, to the late Alphonso F. Sr. and Adella Sherbert Nutwell. She was raised in southern Anne Arundel County. She attended the former Nutwell School and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1927. She was a graduate of Towson Normal School, now Towson University, in 1929 and received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1964.
She was employed as a school teacher at several schools in southern Anne Arundel County for 40 years, retiring in 1972. She married Robert F. Catterton July 21, 1934 and they lived in Bristol and West River until moving to their farm in Tracy's Landing in 1958.
She was very active in her community, and was a member of the former Oakland United Methodist Church in West River, a member of the A.A. Co. Farm Bureau, a docent with Historic Londontowne in Edgewater, and a volunteer with the South County Concert Association. She had a lifelong interest in gardening, was interested in antiques, enjoyed researching and recording family history, and was a Baltimore Orioles fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert who died Aug. 19, 1987; five brothers, Alphonso Jr., Edwin, John, Mac and Julian Nutwell; and one sister, Fannie Stallings.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty C. Norfolk and Robin C. Gross, both of Tracy's Landing; one brother, George Nutwell of Dunkirk; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 1 at Rausch Funeral Home, P.A., 8325 Mount Harmony Lane in Owings, where services officiated by Rev. Don Stewart will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in Woodfield Cemetery, Galesville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Deale Volunteer Fire Department, 6007 Drum Point Road, Deale, MD 20751.
