I knew Howard from the office of Maryland State Treasurer Nancy Kopp. I had been Treasurer Dixon's Executive Assistant since 1996 and upon his retirement I remained in that position for Treasurer Kopp. Howard came on board soon after and we continued to work together until my retirement in July of 2003. Howard somehow learned of my "affection" for movie star Robert Mitchum since my early years and as a retirement "gift", Howard gave me a framed photo of Robert Mitchum from the movie where he played a sinister preacher with the words "Love" and "Hate" on his fingers. Although that was not my fondest movie memory, I thought it was a very thoughtful gesture.
