James "Jim" Lamar Cline, 76, died peacefully on October 6, 2021 in Annapolis, MD. Jim was born in Albany, GA on March 18, 1945 to the late Byron Lamar & Cora Helen Cline. An only child, he grew up in Albany with dear cousins he revered and loved as siblings. After graduating from Albany High School in 1963, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and earned his degree as an Industrial Engineer (IE). Jim was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Air Force in 1968 and served this nation honorably for more than four years. During his military assignment at the National Security Agency, he met the love of his life Janet (Jan) Marie Cline (Wilkinson). The two were happily married for more than 50 years and had two wonderful children. Following his military service, they moved to Severna Park, MD where Jim continued his IE career in Federal service for 42 years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Standards, U.S. Army – Pentagon, and U.S. Navy – Office of Naval Research. Jim was a proud Deacon, serving God and the community in many roles for over 40 years at Severna Park Baptist Church. Over the years, Jim served proudly in many leadership roles to include President of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and National Association of Retired Federal Employees – Local Chapter Officer. Jim also enjoyed volunteering as a Youth Sports Coach in the community for soccer, baseball, and basketball. Family and friends were the most important part of life for Jim. He enjoyed watching the Orioles, the Ravens, and his alma mater the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets every season. Crab feasts and holiday celebrations with friends and family were such a joy for Jim, in addition to annual summer trips soaking up the sun and sea at Ocean City, MD. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Byron and Cora Cline. He is survived by his wife Jan and his children Jacquelyn (Jackie) Marie Cline and James (Jay) Lamar Cline, Jr. as well as his son-in-law Louis Michael Magyar and daughter-in-law Stacy Lynn Cline. For the past 12+ years Jim was a loving grandfather ("Papa") to Travis James Magyar, Riley Kathryn Magyar, Andrew Byron Cline, Abigail Marie Cline, and Heidi Katherine Cline. Jim will always be remembered for his calm and caring demeanor, his kindness and generosity for all he met, and his love of God and Country. He will be so greatly missed.
