Jay Welch

1939 - 2021

Jay Leonard Welch, 81, a resident of Harwood, MD for forty eight years and previously of Adelphi, MD, died on Monday, June 7 at his home. Born on July 5, 1939 in Washington, DC to the late John E. and Roma Lee Welch, Jay graduated from Northwestern High School and served a 5 year plumber's apprenticeship. He became a plumber/ welder and was a member of Plumbers Local #5 for sixty-six years. Jay enjoyed fishing in Salmon River, NY and the Outer Banks of North Carolina, playing slots and going on Caribbean cruises. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Carlisle and son, John Anthony Welch. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann Welch; his son, Jack Leonard Welch of North Beach, MD; his grandchildren, Kevin Carlisle, Jr., Konnor, Kiera and Kiley Murphy and his great-grandchildren, Teagan, Isaac, Landon and Colton Jay; as well as numerous family members and friends in South Dakota. Friends are invited to celebrate Jay's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm.
