Kathleen Appleby Lassetter, 73, of Virginia Beach, passed away Tuesday, 3 June 2025 after an intense one-month battle with cancer. She was born in Baltimore, MD to Hardin Frederich Appleby and Eleanor Rita Berberich Appleby. She retired after 30 years as a Teacher and Guidance Director for the Virginia Beach Public School System and immediately started another career as an active, certified mediator with the Virginia Supreme Court. Kathleen is survived by her husband of 52 years, George Calvin Lassetter, III of Virginia Beach, her Mother, Eleanor Appleby of Bel Air, MD, her brother Tim Appleby (Beth) of Crystal Beach, TX, nieces Annie Austin (Noah) of Waco, TX, Alison Appleby of Crystal Beach, TX, Lauren Dewlin (Alexis) of Bel Air, MD, Matt Dewlin (Johnnie) of Summerville, SC, nephews Patrick Appleby (Julie) of Scottsdale, AZ, grandnieces Lilly and Avery Dewlin of Summerville, SC, nephews Richie and Kevin Beam of Sharpsburg, GA, and Barney and Casey, her beloved Persian cats! A Mercy High School girl and a graduate of the initial class of women at Loyola University of Baltimore, she was a loyal supporter of both schools and proudly wore her Loyola sweatshirt to Navy/Loyola lacrosse games with her Navy husband and their Navy friends while rooting for the Loyola Greyhounds! (And was usually the one celebrating after the game.) She loved Navy Football Tailgates but never attended a game, preferring to shop in Annapolis with her lifelong friend Joy away from the crowds. Also maintaining a residence in
Annapolis, MD, allowed her to continue relationships with High School, College, and Naval Academy Friends and Maryland friends and family. No children but always ready with a story full of her pride in her nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. Kathy and Cal were the love of each other's life, built with love, laughter, tears, travel, and cherished memories with close friends and family.
