Kevin Smith Obituary

On September 22, 2021, Kevin Smith, 66, died in Severna Park, MD. Born on October 29, 1954, in Baltimore, MD, Kevin graduated from Prospect Hall in Frederick in 1973, followed by Frederick Community College where he played basketball for the Cougars. Kevin graduated from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, graduating in 1976 with a degree Business Administration. After college, he worked in pharmaceutical labs in Paducah, KY and Austin TX, moving to State College, PA in the 1980s. Shortly after, he started diving with his friend Dave Krask along the coast of Delaware/Maryland, he changed jobs, moving to a lab in Maryland. While scuba diving off the Addie Mae, Rehoboth, DE, he met his future wife, Sharon. Kevin married Sharon Cutsail Consumano in 1997. Kevin became involved in the Anne Arundel County Master Gardener program, part of the inaugural class in 1998. Always an outdoors person, he bought an outdoor power company to be around machines, tinker with engines and power tools. His tractors were used for his community's floats in the Severna Park July 4th parades and hayrides at Kinder Farm Park. Kevin loved history and spent his free time in museums, gobbling up details to share with others. Always curious, he wanted to know every detail of every story and wanted to share details of his endless stories. He was always willing to help with a car problem, a garden issue, a house project, or just about anything. He constructed a frog pond in his yard and explained the details to many children and adults who loved to hear his stories. Sharon and Kevin loved to travel. In 1996, they traveled to France with friends and, when they were left on their own for one night in Paris, Kevin proposed to Sharon with a cigar band "ring". They camped across Alaska, hiking and scuba diving along the way. Kevin is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith; his brothers Greg Smith of Cooksville, MD; David Smith of Cookeville, TN; and Larry Smith (Renee) of Mt. Airy, MD; and nephews Justin Smith (Erin) and Jeffrey Smith (Maggie). He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Smith and Deloris Pettie Smith of Cooksville, MD and his sister Lorie Smith. Kevin's dogs were an important part of his life, he adopted his first Belgian Tervuren, Bullet, in the early 80s. Four Tervurens followed – Cipher (1987), Tipper (2009) and Stryker (2021). A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Larry and Renee Smith, 16341 Paulownia Hill Ct, Mt. Airy, MD 21771 on October 9 at 1PM. The service is casual. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Celebrate Recovery, 513 Center Dr, Severna Park, MD 21146; Friends of Kinder Farm Park, 1001 Kinder Farm Park Rd, Severna Park, MD 21146; or Severn River Association Memorial Fund, PO Box 146, Annapolis, MD 21404.
