I'm so sorry to hear about this belatedly. I grew up with Kurt in his neighborhood and went to school with him. I still remember fondly the wild Halloween parties at his house. We used to play softball and football in the Beadles' yard behind Kurt's house, and we canoed on the Severn River together. We met again in 1984-5 in Houston, when we were both living their with our families. In fact, Nina helped with the birth of our son Joseph. He was a wonderful friend.

I was a college roommate with Kurt. Kurt was always a friend and supporter and good fun to be with. The story I have of Kurt was one he actually told me. Kurt was not one, at school at any rate, to be completely on top of assignments. He told me a story once that seemed to fit Kurt well. In grade school his class all had to do a special report on Indians (I believe that's what it was). Anyway, the day came when they were due and he hadn't really started his yet. The teacher used this occasion to call students individually to her desk to place their report on a stack of Indian reports. So when his name was called Kurt walked up to the desk and just put his hand on the stack (while the teacher was apparently looking down, reading and checking off her student list). Kurt walked back to his desk and, he said, never heard anything about his lack of an Indian report.
