Madeleine Mixon Obituary

Madeleine Jefferies Mixon, of Arnold, Md passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025 after living with Alzheimer's disease for the past 7 years. Born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, to Lieutenant Colonel Basel and Florence Mixon, Madeleine lived a life marked by adventure, resilience, and deep devotion to her family. As part of a proud military family, Madeleine spent her childhood moving around the world alongside her older twin sisters, Anne and Sue, and her brother, Basel Manley, all of whom preceded her in death. From Okinawa, Japan, to San Francisco, California, to Denver, Colorado, each place shaped her curiosity, open-heartedness, and appreciation for new experiences. The family eventually settled in Nashville, Tennessee, where Madeleine graduated from Hillwood High School before attending Emory and Heny College. Her adult life took her to places she came to love, including Williamsburg, Virginia, and Arnold, Maryland, each becoming home. Madeleine is survived by her former husband Wesse C. Ranes III, their three children: Wesse Tyler (Susan), Megan (Gary), and Alex (Margaret) and six grandchildren; Madeleine, Lilly, Scott, Harrison, Hunter and Carly. She took immense pride in her family and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. To her grandchildren, she wasn't just a grandmother-she was Lola; a name said with joy, comfort, and love. She brightened their lives with her steady presence and traditions they hold dear. Some of Madeleine's happiest moments were spent cooking with and for her children, grandchildren and friends; often with a glass of pinot grigio in her hand, and for special occasions, a feather boa around her shoulders. She loved bringing happiness and joy to her co-workers at the offices where she worked at Anne Arundel Community College. Vacations in the Outer Banks were treasured for its beauty and calm, but more so for time spent with loved ones. Those who knew her will forever remember her warmth, her quick wit, and, of course, her legendary grits-made perfectly every single time, with love as the secret ingredient. Madeleine's life was one of not-so- quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering devotion to the people she held close. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her. Please join us in celebrating Madeleine's life on Thursday, November 20, 2025, anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Federal House in Annapolis.
