Margaret Rightnour Obituary

RIGHTNOUR, MARGARET K. (PEGGY), age 70, of Davidsonville, MD, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at home on February 11, 2014. Her love, generosity, and happiness touched the lives of all who knew her. She and her husband, Jay K. Rightnour, shared 48 years together, raising their children, adoring their grandchildren, and traveling the world. Peggy was born in Washington, DC, on November 19, 1943. Only daughter of Sara and Donald Corrigan, she grew up in Brentwood, MD, and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1961. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's in counseling. Peggy lived a happy and fulfilling life. She was passionate about helping others, and dedicated her entire professional life to doing just that. She retired in August from the Howard County Department of Aging, where she worked tirelessly to help vulnerable adults. She was proudest of her work to found the Anne Arundel County Women's Fair, which began in 1987. Her other great love was travel. As a girl, Peggy never left the East Coast. As an adult, she never stayed still. By 2011, she and Jay had travelled to all 7 continents, a true Odysseus! She loved theater, and was always happy to catch a show in Washington or New York. Throughout her professional, volunteering, and personal life, Peggy touched the heart of everyone she met. She leaves circles of friends around the world, from childhood friends to those she met along the way. She lived a life that reflected one of her favorite quotes: "So interwoven are the threads of human life, that no single contact is trivial." Peggy lived courageously with breast cancer for 10 years. Her journey inspired dozens of residents in Anne Arundel County to get involved in efforts to raise awareness, improve treatment, and conduct research into advanced illness. We will miss our wife, mother, grandmother, and friend! Our memories of good times together will lift us as our dance through life continues. Peggy is survived by her loving husband, devoted friend, travel companion, and loyal confidant of 48 years, Jay K. Rightnour Jr.; by children, Brian Rightnour and Julie Willson; their spouses, Stephanie Mutchler and Jimmy Willson; and her adoring grandchildren: Afton, Rylie, Grady, Bowen, Railen, Rennah, Restyn, and Rogan. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A. 12 Ridgely Avenue Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: METAvivor Inc. a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of advanced breast cancer. www.metavivor.org or at 1783 Forest Drive #184 Annapolis, MD 21401 or- www.stjude.org St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Peggy has been a fellow METAvivor since our inception in 2007. She was such a wonderful woman and her loss will be felt by all she knew. I remember so well how much Peggy supported METAvivor. From her grandchildren raising money to her children participating in our annual Triathlon, Peggy was an active participant in raising awareness about our organization and metastatic breast cancer in general. We have made great gains because of the dedication of our members and we feel hopeful that a control of our condition will be a soon to be reality. Rest in peace, dear Peggy!

I was devastated to learn of Peggy's passing. She has been a friend and a most loyal supporter of METAvivor since April 2008. I am forwarding photos of Peggy taken at our activities to be added to her memorial. Peggy has contributed greatly in every way to our efforts to transition metastatic breast cancer to a controlled, manageable condition. We will continue our efforts, in no small part in honor of those who, like Peggy, gave so much to help make our dreams a reality. Rest in peace, dear Peggy. You will forever be one of us.
