Piedad Austrich

Piedad Iglesias Austrich, 86, died July 27 at Crofton Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Havana Cuba July 21, 1927; she was the daughter of Recaredo Iglesias y Lopez and Piedad Iglesias y Gonzalez of the Province of Leon, Spain. Piedad immigrated to the United States in 1960. She worked as a beautician and seamstress in Florida and Baltimore. In 1975, the family moved to Dale City, Virginia where she was the housekeeper for the Holy Family Catholic Church for 21 years. She moved to Bowie in 1998 with son Gonzalo "Jim". Piedad is preceded in death by her husband, Jaime Jesus Austrich, who died in 1991. Surviving are two sons, James Gonzalo Austrich (Pamela) and Jorge Austrich (Paulette); and two daughters, Asuncion Hatch and Lillian Bowie. A Catholic mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Ascension Catholic Church. Interment was at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA.
