Regina Wiegand

Regina G. Wiegand, 95, of Fort Myers, FL, died February 19 in Fort Myers, FL after a two-month illness. Regina was born May 31, 1917 in New York City. When she was four years old her family left New York City to return to their native Germany. The family returned to the United States permanently in 1929. In the late thirties, Regina married John and they lived in New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY, until 1952 when they moved to North Valley Stream, Long Island, NY. After John's death in 1986, Regina moved to Lodi, CA, to be with her sister's Nilssen family. She remained in Lodi for ten years before moving in with her older son Richard and his family in Millers-ville. In 2007, Regina moved into an independent living facility called Rider-wood, in Silver Spring. Finally, in August of 2012, she moved in with her daughter Mady in Fort Myers, FL. Both Regina and John enjoyed music. Regina often sang while John played the family's baby grand piano. They both belonged to the Hempstead, N.Y., Liederkranz (singing society). Regina enjoyed traveling and made many trips to several continents, including the Antarctic. She enjoyed playing bridge and was actively playing within a few months of her death. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Regina was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Wiegand; her younger son, John C. Wiegand; and her four sisters, Annie Lindstaedt, Elsbeth Pope, Eleonore Nuth and Ernestine Nilssen. Regina is survived by her son, Richard (daughter-in-law Louise) Wiegand of Millersville; daughter, Mady Teeple of Fort Myers, FL; two grandsons, Michael (Cindy) Wiegand of Millersville, Jeffrey (Erika) Wiegand, of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Jake Wiegand and Kurt Wiegand both of Herndon, VA; granddaughter, Christine Lodowski, of Millersville; daughter-in-law Jane Wiegand; and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service for Regina is planned for May 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, followed by an internment at St. Raymond's Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, New York City, N.Y.
