Our beloved Richard "Dick" Poland passed away suddenly on September 4, 2021 at 85. He was a lifetime resident of Arnold with his wife Gloria Jean Poland. Richard was born in Cresaptown, MD to Evelyn Lovina and Joseph Allen Poland on December 26, 1935. He is survived by a brother, Leonard Joseph; and sister, Carol Ann Metz. He is preceded in death by brothers, Alfred Franklin and Harold Eugene. Richard grew up in Annapolis where he met the love of his life, Gloria Jean Sullivan and married December 28, 1958. They were married 63 years. They have 4 children, Margie Lovina Parolski (Paul), Kimberly Jean (Ken VanHooijdonk), Richard Scott and Jobie Elwood Poland. Known as Poppy, he has 9 Grandchildren, 9+ Great-Grandchildren and 32 nieces and nephews. Richard joined the U.S. Army in 1958 and was stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He was activated to Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. He worked at the Circle Movie Theater, was a surveyor, and a dedicated letter carrier for U.S. Postal Service for 36 years in (Murray Hill) Annapolis. Richard loved family gatherings, and enjoyed gardening, coin and stamp collecting, crossword puzzles, genealogy, Orioles, and Ravens. He enjoyed music and old westerns. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 1-3pm and 5-7pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home the following day, Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10:00am. The interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 7231 Ritchie Hwy Suite E, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
