Richard Slingluff Obituary

Richard Cross "Dick" Slingluff (1941-2022) passed away on September 13, 2022 at the age of 80 in Annapolis, Maryland. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He and his wife, Susan MacCubbin "Pinky" Slingluff, celebrated 51 years of marriage in August 2022. Following a battle with serious medical issues in recent years, he was surrounded by loving family and friends to the end. Richard was born to Harold and Marion Slingluff in 1941 in Mitchellville, Maryland. The youngest and last surviving of five siblings he was brother to Margaret T. Slingluff, Maryanne S. Chapman, John Mitchell and William Mitchell. As a child, he was active in 4-H and was forever proud of his prize-winning pig, Porky, who won a blue ribbon at the Maryland State Fair. He graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, where he played lacrosse and excelled as an athlete. Starting his professional life in construction in Bowie, Maryland, he later went on to work in real estate and property management. He was a member of the Southern Maryland Society and maintained long friendships with an extended circle of friends in Prince George's County and across Southern Maryland. He was also active for many years with the Golf"FERS" in Annapolis, who launched fundraising events for the Hospice of the Chesapeake and other local charities. He loved entertaining friends and family, hosting gatherings and parties over many years. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States - especially the West, where he was able to experience the landscapes of his favorite Western films. He is survived by his wife Susan "Pinky" Slingluff, his daughter Susan Slingluff Hartmann, his son-in-law Daniel Hartmann, his son Richard Hardisty Slingluff and daughter-in-law Jennifer Muther Slingluff. He was loved and will be missed deeply by his grandchildren Jesse, Alexander, and Ryan. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
