Robert Grollman Obituary

Robert John Grollman, 74, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died May 20, 2011 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was born August 26, 1936 at Annapolis Emergency Hospital and was married for 54 years to Doris Lorraine Grollman. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-58. He worked at the downtown Annapolis U.S. Post Office from 1958-1981 and at the Naval Academy from 1981-1995.

Bob was a lifetime member of St. Mary's and St. John Neumann Catholic Churches, benefactor member of the National Rifle Association, lifelong member of the MD State Rifle and Pistol Association, the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association, Independent Fire Company, Elks Lodge #622 and a 35-year member of American Legion Post #7. He was an avid gun, coin and stamp collector and loved model trains.

In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by his three children; Cheryl Lynn Portmess (James) of Oldtown, MD, Robert Wayne Grollman (Peggy) of Annapolis and Thomas John Grollman (Amy) of Crownsville; seven grandchildren, John Curtis Portmess (Leandra), Jeremy Christopher Portmess (Kayla), Matthew Wayne Grollman, Sarah Nicole Grollman, Stephanie Lee Ann Grollman, Taylor Marie Grollman and Tracy Nicole Grollman; three great-grandsons; and his sister, Gail Black, of St. Leonard, MD.

Graveside services will be on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnmtaylorfuneralhome.com.
