Ruth Cann Obituary

Ruth Wilson Cann died peacefully after a long illness on March 15th, 2024 in Baltimore, MD. at the age of 92. Born in Boston, MA. on August 3, 1931, she was the daughter of Robert G. Wilson Jr and Florence Ruth (Purcell) Wilson. A graduate of Garland Junior College, she married her husband Norton W. Cann in 1951 and had two children, Deborah C. Westcott and David N. Cann. A loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, Ruth was devoted to her family, always referring to herself as a homemaker and to her church, teaching Sunday School for many years. Ruth made friends wherever she went and was known for her sense of humor and her joy of laughter shall be sorely missed! She is survived by her daughter; sisters: Diana Wilson Frazier (Paul), Mary Wilson- Tauson (Ric), and Sara Wilson; a daughter-in-law, Maria B. Cann; four grandchildren: Molly A. Rinke, Jeffrey D. Cann, Dr. Matthew D. Cann and Mary E. Cann; three great-grandchildren, Arabelle A. and Weston F. Rinke and Oliver A. Cann; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband; son; grandson, Robert G. Cann; sisters: Carol Hernandez, Judith Cox; and brother, Robert G. Wilson, III. Donations in her name can be made to the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, CT., the American Cancer Society and Gilchrist Hospice Care in Hunt Valley, MD. A memorial service will be held July 18th, 2024 at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme. Ruth will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Duck River Cemetery in Old Lyme.
