Stanley Davis Obituary

Stan Davis, age 84, was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on August 24, 1933 and died in Arnold, MD on March 29, 2018. He was married to his wife Loretta (Laurie) for 58 years. He is also survived by his children Lisa Jacob, Mark Davis and Lynn Koutras, their spouses Daniel (now divorced), Ines and James; seven grandsons, Danny Jacob, Nick Jacob, Joe Jacob, Andre Davis, Joel Davis, Reid Koutras and Ryan Koutras; and Shirley Davis of Erie, PA, wife of Stan's brother Russell. Laurie was the love of Stan's life, and they spent their lives together doing the things they loved to do. Stan grew up in a family with two brothers and two sisters, and enjoyed a larger extended family of many relatives who lived nearby. Stan was graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1955. At this time he was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy and served for three years on destroyers operating with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. In 1959, he began a career as a Civil Engineer with the Federal Highway Administration engaged in constructing the Interstate Highway Program. He married Loretta Jean Petralia, and they traveled extensively with their family to various assignments throughout the country. During this time the family enjoyed camping and hiking in many of the National Parks. In 1980, Stanley accepted the position of Chief, Hydraulics and Geotechnical Branch, in the Bridge Division of the FHWA Headquarters in Washington D.C. where he served until he retired in 1988. Stan continued to pursue his interest in the hydraulic design of bridges as a consultant for the Maryland State Highway Administration until he retired once more in 2017. Stan's avocation was music and he loved to play the piano and accordion. He was a member of the "Severna Park Bums" a musical group who performed locally for community associations, churches and nursing homes. He also belonged to the "Dynalongs", a group of friends who met regularly to enjoy good food and to sing hymns and popular songs. Stan attended the Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park for many years, singing in the choir and serving as Deacon and Elder. He loved his family, and he was most appreciative of the fact that his children lived nearby so that he could watch his seven grandsons grow up. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2pm in Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146

Stan is missed as much today as the day he left us. More importantly Stan is loved today as much as the day he left us

Having been in the music business for many, many years, I thought it was just a pleasant memory of my past, until God brought Stan and Laurie Davis into our lives. He and his beloved "Bums", and wonderful pals called "The Dyne A Longs" not only re-kindled the love Carolyn and I had for music, but brought it to an entire new dimension, a dimension supported by Christian comradeship and support.. Stan had such a loving nature, that just being around him made the day better, and most certainly the music.... unforgettable. I loved Stan, and will never stop missing him.

Stan was a wonderul man whom it was a privelege to know and to play music with. The John Know Ceilidh Band, of which Stan was the impressario, will be a memory that my entire famil will hold dear for the rest of our lives. I look forward to seeing Stan in the Land of the Leal, where he'll undoubtedly be organizing musical programs with all of his friends there with his accordion and his piano. I'll make sure to bring my tin whistle.
