Virginia Clements Obituary

Severna Park, Maryland – Virginia (Gina) Fletcher Clements, age 56, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 12, 2019 at home. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family. Gina was born December 8, 1962 in Chappaqua, NY, the daughter of Carolyn and Thomas Fletcher. She graduated with a B.S. in Education from the University of Virginia in 1985 and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. In 1986, Gina married Barry Clements and was a loving wife and mother. Gina began her teaching career in California and after spending several years at home with her sons, she spent over 20 years teaching in Anne Arundel County. During this time, she earned an M.S. in Administration and earned accreditation as a National Board-Certified Teacher. She was also once nominated for Anne Arundel County Teacher of the Year. Her love for teaching was not confined to the classroom and she tutored many students in math at home. Gina also enjoyed sports, particularly UVA basketball and was an active member of Woods Church where she previously taught Sunday School. Gina genuinely loved people and she expressed her creativity in interior design, artwork, and fun social gatherings. Her favorite charity was Linda's Legacy, Giving Back where she coordinated donations of needed clothing and supplies at Severna Park Middle School for distribution to the homeless in Baltimore on Christmas Eve. Gina is survived by her husband Barry Clements of Severna Park, MD; son and daughter-in-law Kyle and Mary Clements of Washington D.C.; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Katie Clements of Severna Park, MD; mother Carolyn Fletcher of Ashburn, VA; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Jeff Mitchell of Purcellville, VA; sister and brother-in-law Judith and Robert Richards of Leesburg, VA; sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Mark Saine of Southport, CT. A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Giving Back charity at www.homelessdrive.org where there is a dropdown box to honor Gina. A reception will be held following the service.

Dear Clements Family,

I was saddened to learn of Gina's passing. She was a shining star who touched so many lives. I was fortunate to be her friend and colleague in both California and Maryland. We were young teachers together for several years at Gavilan View Middle School in Salinas. With husbands in the military, we both landed in Anne Arundel County and several years later worked in the same school district once again.
Though our paths did not cross often, we always stayed in touch through annual family updates. There is so much to miss about Gina. My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends whom she adored and who adored her. Heaven has a new angel.

I was so saddened to hear of Gina's passing. She was one of the most talented teachers I ever had the opportunity to work with! I learned so much from her spirt and enthusiasm for her students and life.
While we lost touch over the years, she was such an influence in my AACPS career. Joyful is what my memories are of her each and every day she walked into Jones Elementary.

My sympathies to her family,
Alison Lee

Mrs. Clements was my 3rd grade teacher and I've always remembered her fondly. I deeply regret not getting the chance to reconnect before her passing. She encouraged my creativity and my passion for writing stories, and tutored me in math after school. She's one of the reasons I myself pursued a career in education. She impacted so many lives and her passing is a huge loss.

I will miss Gina. She was an inspiration to me as a teacher, partner, mother, and daughter. I know she's smiling and laughing now because that's what she loved to do here on Earth.

Dear Clements Family,

I am so sorry to hear about Gina's passing. We taught math together at SPMS and Scott was in my 7th grade class. I fondly remember how excited Gina's students were during her "March Madness" activities. She truly loved teaching and her students, almost as much as her own boys. She was always so proud of her family when we would catch up at AACPS events. My thoughts are with your entire family during this difficult time.
