William Hatch Obituary

William Hatch William W. Hatch "Bill", 82, of Annapolis, died May 18 after a brief illness. He was born August 26, 1928 in Brookside, KY. The family moved to Demopolis, AL, where he lived until his enlistment in the Marine Corps in 1946. He served on the USS Butner. He was stationed in Rome at the American Embassy, and various other locations until he attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1955. He continued to serve in the Marine Corps with tours in Okinawa, Camp Lejeune, Camp Pendleton, Subic Bay Philippines and Vietnam. He retired with the rank of Major in 1968. Following several years of work with the Prince George's County Board of Education, he was the co-owner/operator with his brother of H&H Trucking. Upon retirement, he took up painting and was a natural musician, playing both piano and guitar at the family gatherings he loved. His interest in genealogy led to a comprehensive record of family history. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Cook Hatch; three daughters, Sybil Hatch of Berkeley, CA, Constance Laura Bennett and husband Steven of Arlington, VA and Margaret Anne Leahy and husband Daniel of Altadena, CA; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, June 1, 11 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, with a reception to follow at St. Anne's Parish Hall, 199 Duke of Gloucester St. Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts may be made in his memory to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation at www.marinescholars.org or Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401. See where the wake of that ship catches the glow of a beautiful sunset; then we rest with our eyes on the horizon. Love to all of the family. Coleman Feeney
