Josephine Tretter Obituary
Springfield - Josephine "Joee" June Tretter, 84, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2025, at Rochester Estates in Rochester.
Joee was born in Gillespie, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Margie (Hill) Tretter. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her beloved sister, Beverly Woodrum, of Roanoke, Virginia, as well as her dear cousins, Cathy (Tretter) Curry and Dave Tretter, both of Springfield, as well as many other relatives outside the Springfield area.
Joee was a dedicated employee of the Central Illinois Power Co. (CIPS) and later the Illinois Energy Association, where she formed many lasting friendships that she cherished throughout her life. She had a deep love for travel, especially to the southwestern United States, a region that held a special place in her heart.
For those who knew her well, Joee wasn't shy about sharing her opinion on a variety of subjects, but also generously helped those who were less fortunate in her community. She had a tremendous love for animals, especially dogs. There wasn't a dog she didn't like - or wanted to help - if they were in need. Her compassion for animals was a defining part of who she was.
She will be remembered for her kind heart, adventurous spirit, and the strong, lifelong connections she maintained with family and friends.
Joee's family will meet friends and family from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee, with Rev. Randy Sharp officiating. A private burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Gillespie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Benld Adopt-A-Pet, 807 Steward Ave., Benld, IL 62009 - a charity close to Joee's hometown - or to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Road, Springfield, IL 62702.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Rochester Estates in Rochester for all the love, compassion and support they have given. Elara Caring Hospice and their wonderful staff were also deeply involved in caring for Joee and supporting the family, and their help was greatly appreciated.
