Kandyce K. Ewing Blankartz was born in Huron SD to Dewey T. Ewing Jr. and Arlene L. (Harford) Ewing August 2, 1948. She lived in Doland until she was five and they moved to the Black Hills where she attended Hill City school through her sophomore year they moved to Pierre, SD in 1965 where Kandy graduated from Riggs High School 1967. Kandy then went to business school in Omaha, taking up computers. She then started working for the State of South Dakota in data processing from 1968 to 1978.
Kandy met and married Richard Blankartz August 26, 1972. Then moved to Mobridge in 1978. In that union they had five children, a son, Donald; four daughters, Darcey, Dawn, Desiree, and Deidra. Raising five kids was very hectic which involved every sport. There were a lot of quick hot dog suppers. The girls were also in Girl Scouts of which Kandy was a leader of the Daisy troop. Kandy very much-loved hobby was refunding to make extra money.
Kandy is a member of the Ladies of the Moose, Mobridge Sr. Center, and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge.
Kandy, being born asthmatic became very sick with COPD in 1997 and went on oxygen so things became harder for her to do but she always kept trying, never giving up. Kandy started advocating for COPD in 2004. This was her passion for helping people.
Her favorite thing was being with the 13 grandkids. Picking up from school, babysitting, and bike riding. Kandy tackled roller skating at her granddaughter's birthday. Then came the grandkids ballgames and concerts at school. Kandy enjoyed these until her health prevented her from going. She surely missed these times.
She is survived by her five children, son, Donald (Stacey Kulm) Blankartz; daughters, Deidra (Nate) Shillingstad, Desiree (Robert Carlson) Blankartz, Dawn(Justin) Feyereisen, all of Mobridge, and Darcey (Kevin) Koch of Bismarck ND; 13 grandchildren, Amy Blankartz, Tyler Blankartz, Kayla Blankartz and William Blankartz, Kaycey Koch, Noah Feyereisen, Kyah Feyereisen, Avah Feyereisen, Jaah Feyereisen, Chloe Blankartz, Laney Blankartz, Kiana Shillingstad, and Kinley Shillingstad; one great-grandson, Westen; one surviving sibling sister, Sandra (Gary) Arnburg of Lenexa KS.
Preceded in death were her dad, Dewey Ewing; her mom, Arlene Ewing; both paternal grandparents; and many aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers, Noah Feyereisen, Tyler Blankartz, Will Blankartz and Jaah Feyereisen. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Redfield SD.
