Bessie Lorraine "Betsy" Gaines

Bessie "Betsy" Lorraine Bowers Gaines, 83, of Westminster, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at BridgingLife-Dove House. Betsy was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Evan Gaines who passed away in 2000. Betsy was born on February 18, 1939 in Hanover, PA to the late William Henry and Vyonne Adele Bowers. She is survived by children, Warren William Cook, Sr. of Westminster; Cindy Ann Whitestone and husband Kenneth of Westminster; stepchildren Carol Kalbach; Sherry Lepson; Benjamin Gaines; grandchildren Bill Cook; Alecia Harvey and fiancé Travis Willhoite; Michael Whitestone; and Brittany Whitestone and fiancé, Chandler Kerr; great-grandchildren Kane and Lila. She also leaves a sister, Sharon "Sherry" Swank and husband Ronald, brother-in-law, J. Anthony Vance, and her former husband and father of her children, David Benjamin Cook and his wife, Carole. In addition to her parents and husband, Betsy was predeceased by stepchild, Ruth Rowles and her sister, Delores "Dee" Vance. After working for Carroll County Schools as a bus driver/bus driver trainer, Betsy went to work at McDonough School in Owings Mills as the Assistant Director of Transportation. She played Bingo every week at Sunnybrook with her friends, she loved being at the ocean, watching the seagulls and lighthouses. Betsy also enjoyed doing all types of crafts. She loved to bake, especially wedding cakes. She also made wedding gowns for family members. Most of all, Betsy cherished the time spent with her family. Her family will welcome friends on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. Betsy's funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at 11am at the funeral home. For those who cannot attend her funeral, it will be livestreamed.
