Betty McCormick Obituary

Betty Evelyn McCormick , nee Walters, passed in peace, Saturday, April 15, 2023. Born August 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes Walters, beloved wife of the late James Francis McCormick, Sr. Betty attended Southern High School where she was a Majorette in the school's Marching Band and met the love of her life, Jim, who played trumpet in the band. They were married in 1952 and were the devoted parents of 10 children. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America where she supported various charities especially children's causes and the needy. She was an avid reader and writer and penned many short stories under her pseudonym, Beth St. Clair. Betty loved spending time with her family making holidays special and memorable. Every birthday was celebrated with her homemade Hot Milk Cake. She commemorated St. Patrick's Day with her famous Irish soda bread, and nothing could compare to her Thanksgiving Day Stuffing. She loved vacationing at the beach with family, and enjoyed shopping with her sisters, hosting tea parties and of course, chocolate. Her beautiful smile and persona will be missed by many. She is survived by her children, James McCormick, Jr (Karen), Patricia Lanocha (John), Joan Spindler (Wayne), Jean McCormick, Barbara Haralamas, Maribeth Grodnitsky (David), Teresa Ertel (Donald), a sister, Joan Keefer, 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by children, Kathleen, Michael, and Patrick. Celebration of life Mass will take place 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 20, 2023, in Scared Heart Chapel, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, MD 21071. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, stjude.org/donate or Alzheimer's Association, alz.org.
