Cassandra Wilhide Obituary

Cassandra Ruth "Cassie" Seibert Wilhide went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 12, 2020. Born September 18, 1943 in Clear Spring, MD, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Keiffer Seibert and Virginia Ruth Miles Seibert. Cassie was a graduate of Clear Spring High School, class of 1961. She loved to sing and was part of a Minstrel group there. She graced many weddings and concerts with her beautiful soprano voice. She was the Farm Queen for Washington County in 1960. Some of her volunteer work included Francis Scott Key High PTA president, and secretary for the Choral Boosters. She was a board member of the Hashawa Environmental Center, and the Tourism Council of Maryland. Her passion was working with and caring for seniors. She was a great caregiver of others and received recognition from the Senior Provider Information Network for her outstanding service to seniors in 2011. She worked tirelessly as an advocate for Multiple Sclerosis patients, a disease that she dealt with personally for 30 years. She loved everyone, but especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her godsons, Philip Saloom, Ritchie West and John Dolly. She leaves behind four children, Sue (John Mike Myers), Chris (Greg Kane), Julie (Richard Devilbiss), and Andy (Bobbie) Wilhide; brothers, Jim (Anne) Seibert, and Paul (Sherry) Seibert; sisters-in-law, Dena Seibert, Sally Seibert, Barbara Seibert, and Jackie Wilson; brother-in-law, Rodney Saloom; 16 grandchildren, Jenna (Justin Shriver), Nikki (Garrett Martin), Faith (fiance' John Longenecker), Sarah, Nathan and Evan Myers, Grace, Doori, and Declan Kane, Samantha and Jessica Devilbiss, Maddie, Mackenzie, John, Josie and Meredithe Wilhide; 5 great-grandchildren, Noah, Caleb, and Joanna Shriver, and Melody and Adaline Martin; and many nieces and nephews. She was looking forward to her 6th great-grandchild, due in June. She will also be fondly remembered by Richard Wilhide. She was preceeded in death by sister, Mariann Saloom; brothers, Tim and John Seibert; and grandchildren, Hope Yvonne Myers and Isabelle Rose Wilhide. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of Transitions Health Care at Oakland Manor, in Sykesville for the excellent care Mom received during the time she was part of their family. At Cassie's request, there will be no viewing or service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In keeping with the life that she lived, she donated her body for medical research in hopes of helping others with Multiple Sclerosis. MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown, MD is assisting the family with arrangements. If anyone would like to remember Cassie with donations, the family requests they be sent to Tom's Creek Church, 10926 Simmons Road, Emmitsburg, Md 21727, or Hospice of Carroll County, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.

Cassie and I only met because she opened her heart and home (and farm) to me and a few others in early 1983, as a host family of Up With People students. I literally just came across her recipe for Applesauce Raisin Cake in my old recipe box and decided to "Google" her, and sadly, found her obituary. She was a beautiful, loving woman that shone brightly in her home and community - that was obvious to me instantly. She made this World a better place and I´m so glad I had the privilege to have known her, even for only a few days. May we all spread such love everyday!

Cassie was a dear friend ever since I was a guest at the Seibert home in 1961. We kept in touch over the years and she always regarded me as a brother. Through everything Cassie was an inspiration with her positive attitude and cheerful smile. I always looked forward to visiting her when I travelled in the U.S. My wife and sons also came to know and love her. Thank you Julie for helping me keep in touch with her in the last few years.
